Merton Priory: 900 Years in 90 Minutes
Walk and Talk Event with John Hawks
Saturday 10th October 2015 11am - 1pm
Merton Chapter House, Merton Abbey Mills
£10 (includes lunch)
Beneath Colliers Wood Sainsbury’s car park lie the ruins of Merton Priory – a once majestic Augustinian religious house. John Hawks, Vice Chair of Merton Priory Trust, covers the area’s fascinating history which began nine centuries ago when the priory was founded and includes the role it played in the formation of the Magna Carta.
The event begins in the medieval Chapter House at Merton Abbey Mills, includes a short walk to the remains of the Priory Wall, and finishes back in the Chapter House for a glass of wine and a medieval-style luncheon of tasty homemade broth (with vegetarian alternative).
